Application Procedure

2. Send us your portfolio

Your portfolio is an important part of your application, take a close look at the portfolio requirements listed to the left.
Along with your portfolio we also like you to give us a few details on your background, and a letter of intent.

Admission

About 10 students are admitted to the programme every year. Admission is based on the applicants qualifications verified in documentation, portfolio and interview - in person or by telephone. In addition to this, two exchange students may also be accepted for one or two semesters.

Programme Pre-requisites

Applicants need a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial Design or Graphic Design, Computer Science, Informatics, Psychology, Engineering Design. Applicants are required to submit a digital portfolio.

Students are required to show a high level of English proficiency (equivalent to English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School). Read More

Specific Portfolio Requirements

You are required to upload a digital portfolio, preferable in landscape format. The portfolio should contain 8-12 samples of your work, showing your present creative and aesthetic design experience and capabilities on professional and/or academic level.

You can include videos, photos, sketches, 3D renderings, graphics, or interactive presentations to demonstrate your design skills.

For each work sample, include a short text (10-20 words) describing the content and context of the shown project. In group projects, tell us what your contribution was.

Keep the presentation of each work sample to one page each and select the parts that best presents your strengths. However, one or two of the submitted work samples should be described in more detail over 3-4 pages, where your design process should be in focus.

We look for:

  • Aesthetic craftsmanship
  • Overall human-centered attitude to design
  • Creativity, design thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Capability of critical and analytical thinking
  • Experience with individual and group work
  • Graphics software skills (Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Basic experience of building physical mock-ups and presentation models
  • Interest in information technology

You can submit your portfolio as a weblink (preferred) or as a PDF. Make sure that the website link works for both Mac and PC and with different browser platforms.

NOTE - No printed portfolios OR physical media (CD, DVD, USB-stick) will be accepted when applying for the Interaction Design MA Programme.

Tuition/Application Fees

Tuition and application fees is charged
for students outside the European Union.

Step 2.  Deadline for portfolio and letter of motivation.

February 28
Final date to pay application fee or submit documentation of your citizenship status to confirm that you do not need to pay application or tuition fees.
Deadline for supporting documents (previous education) to arrive in Strömsund. (universityadmissions.se)

March 29
Notification of the selection results sent out via e-mail. (We do not give acceptance notice by phone.)

April 16
Last date for accepted students to reply to offer of study place.

April 19
Second notification of the selection results is sent to applicants on the reserve list.

Late applications
Please note that applications that reach UID after the deadline will only be considered if study places are still available on the course after the first round of application reviews. Should you wish to hand in a late application, please contact us.
