The difference between a Programme and a Course
- A programme is made of a number of courses and at the completion of a programme the student will have earned a specific degree. A Master programme at Umeå Institute of Design has 120 credits (2 years of full-time study). A BA programmes has 180 credits (3 years of full-time study).
- Single-subject courses do not render degrees but can prepare students to apply to educational programmes at this and other universities. The one-year courses at Umeå Institute of Design are 60 credits (1 year of full-time study).
Bachelor Programme - Kandidatprogrammet i industridesign
The language requirement for the Bachelor programme is Swedish B. Since the study language for the programme is Swedish, all further information about the BA programme will be in Swedish.
Varje år antas 12-14 nya studenter till kandidatprogrammet i industridesign. För att söka till programmet krävs att du har grundläggande behörighet till högskola/universitet där du har minst betyget Godkänt i Svenska B, Matematik A och Engelska A. Du ska dessutom lämna in arbetsprover för att visa konstnärlig begåvning och stark fallenhet för industridesignyrket.
För sökande med utländsk gymnasieutbildning: För att bli antagen till kandidatprogrammet i industridesign måste du visa att du har tillräckliga kunskaper i svenska. Om du inte har betyg i svenska bör du göra ett TISUS test.

Masters Programme
Approximately 10 students are accepted annually for each Master's programme. The programmes are open for international students. Over 80% of students come from abroad representing many countries including South Korea, China, Israel, Mexico, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Colombia and most European countries.
Entry requirements include a bachelor degree in industrial design or equivalent creative education.
The Interaction Design programme is open to students with other educational backgrounds such as cognitive psychology or computer science.
Higher level of written and spoken English is also required

One-year Courses
Umeå Institute of Design offers two one-year courses, Design Connections and Industrial Design Introduction. Entry requirements differ between the two courses.
