"When your work speaks for itself, don&t interrupt." Henry J. Kaiser
On Friday April 15th the first-year students from the Advanced Product Design programme demonstrated their working rechargeable screwdriver prototypes. As a festive finale of the project, the students had the weekly Friday pub with a Screwdriver theme, in the Project studio, where the DJ booth conveniently was located in the truck cab.
During the course Parametric Modelling, the students analysed a number of different screwdrivers and then individually selected a specific brand of hand tool manufacturers who does not (yet) manufacture small screwdrivers.
The student then had to create a new design for a screwdriver that translated the distinctive attributes of the selected brands visual identity, and that design were then modelled in SolidWorks and rapid prototyped. Finally the students placed the working components of an original screwdriver inside their shells, ending up with a fully functional prototype.
Brands the students used were Stihl, Bahco, Oxo, Husqvarna, Stanley, Atlas Copco, Hilti, Kärcher and Fiskars.
