"Simplicity is the glory of expression." Walt Whitmane
The first year BA-students at the Industrial Design Programme exhibit their recent form study project Expressions & Attributes at UID this week. The purpose of the course was to understand the relation between proportions and appearances of objects and how these typical visual features make the product belong to a specific category of use, work environments and express a distinct visual language.
How do you give expression to the form? What are the key visual elements? How do look & feel, colour & texture make the product appear soft, hard, warm, tough or delicate, and what is the importance of the words that are attached in describing a product? These were some of the important design criteria that the students examined through this form study course with Jasjit Singh. The students explore new concepts and forms for bicycle lamps, flashlights, voltage detectors and radio microphones. Their results can be seen this week at the exhibition at Umeå Institute of Design.
