UID student wins Silver at the IDEA Student Designs competition

Francisco Lindoro, a student at the MA programme of Advanced Product Design, has been acknowledged with a Silver award in the Student Designs category at the IDEA 2009 (International Design Excellence Awards) for his concept ”Childbirth assistance outside hospitals”.
The concept was designed to aid women and midwives with childbirth in developing countries, where equipment and sterilization are often lacking. Upon opening the sealed container, the user can access sterilized supplies in the sequence of their use: a mat, a lab coat for the midwife, cloths, and a baby sling.

IDEA is organised by the IDSA - Industrial Designers Society of America. The 2009 award ceremony will take place in Miami in September.
