Students celebrating the award
The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education has awarded Umeå Institute of Design as a Centre of Excellence in Higher Education. An international expert panel has evaluated the quality of the education at UID through assessment of a written report and through interviews with students and staff at a site-visit in the autumn of 2008. One main factor that the National Agency highlights as excellent at UID, is the pedagogic system of combining a permanent in-house teaching staff with practitioners and experts from industry. This gives an excellent balance between scientific research, artistic foundation and practical skills. The expert panel writes: "The highly competent staff works jointly and continuously towards a com¬mon goal. This takes the form of a central educational concept grounded in a tangible project in cooperation with industry and supported by highly com¬petent teachers from industry and from the Institute."Read the whole report here, and see the National Agency&s home page for more information: www.hsv.se
