Projects from Advanced Product Design receive honorary awards

Out of a total of 2100 submitted projects from more than 37 countries, 2 projects from the MA programme Advanced Product Design were among the top 100 projects that were awarded an honourable recognition in the iF concept award 2008.

The first project was designed by Mert Turon, who graduated from UID in 2006. He was honoured for his "Wire-Monkey" a concept for an autonomous inspection robot, which would move along the high-tension transmissions lines measuring the current in the wires in order to detect and avoid worn out lines, which today results in energy losses, transient spikes, line breakage or total grid failure.

The second project was one of the 4 projects from the 2007 Tram Project at APD programme, which was carried out in collaboration with the French tram and train manufacturer ALSTOM (www.alstom.com). The concept of a Double Decker tram for the city of Stockholm in 2025 offering both optimised and pleasurable transport for city travellers, tourists and handicapped was designed by Vanessa Sattele, Patrik Pettersson and Fredrik Nilsson.
