Interaction design: Malin Mäki wins first prize for best paper at the SIDER 06 conference

First prize for the best paper was given to Malin Mäki for her paper entitled ”Tell Me Your Story: Staging a Collaborative Design Event Using Stories”.
Malin is completing her second year on the Interaction Design Programme at Umeå Institute of Design.

43 papers and posters were presented at this years Student Interaction Design Research conference held at Chalmers University in Gothenburg.

Her paper describes an exercise, or method, which can be useful when a design team has to deal with complex findings from ethnographic field studies.

The exercise helps team members achieve a shared understanding of the ethnographic material and enables findings to be communicated to other team members and stakeholders.

The method was developed and used in the Microsoft Research Design Expo project carried out in the Spring of last year.

Thirteen UID student presentations at the conference
This year´s Student Interaction Design Research conference was hosted by the Interaction Design Group at the Dept. of Computer Science, Chalmers University.

43 papers and posters were accepted for presentation. 13 of these came from the 1st and 2nd year interaction design students from the UID Masters programme.

The SIDER 06 conference was started last year at the initiative of Professor Jacob Buur from the IT Product Design programme at the University of Southern Denmark.

This year 11 different Universities from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Holland participated, all of which have Interaction Design related educational programmes, research or courses. Interaction Design is growing fast.
